SHoMaP, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Kenyan government, aimed to enhance smallholder farmers’ participation in horticultural markets by improving infrastructure, capacity building, and market linkages. The project focused on key horticultural crops, supporting value chain development and export promotion.
Implementation Status
SHoMap was initiated in the year 2007 and ended in 2015, SHoMaP improved rural road networks, established cold storage facilities, and trained over 30,000 farmers in agribusiness skills and quality compliance for exports.
Key Findings
- Improved Market Infrastructure: The development of market centers and cold storage units reduced post-harvest losses.
- Enhanced Farmer Training: Farmers gained knowledge on value addition and export standards.
